(and, by the by, you should hear the disagreements hubby and I get into over GWB and Iraq. Hubby is a republican, and honestly, I don't believe he knows WHY he is, except for the fact that his family always has been and his brother's grown children are military). It's embarrassing! lol.)Sharon Bartletthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10003321957027877259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4892410341630086121.post-31119630165308684772012-01-15T09:40:02.276-08:002012-01-15T09:40:02.276-08:00On the Louisiana Purchase, I suspect that France w...On the Louisiana Purchase, I suspect that France was willing to sell it off partly because the British Navy, by the early 1800s, was so powerful that France didn't think it could hold on to it anyway. <br />As for teaching freedom in K-12, I believe you have a point. I wonder what sixth graders would write if they were assigned an essay on freedom and what institutions are a threat to it.Rlmoore2647@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05639371903932229530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4892410341630086121.post-37043711694164741752012-01-12T19:03:40.955-08:002012-01-12T19:03:40.955-08:00Putting aside the whole French/British rewriting h...Putting aside the whole French/British rewriting history scenario - though I am curious how the Louisiana Purchase would have played out - Why doesn't the government cover topic like "Freedom" in k-12 education ? That is their time to influence our identity and values (far more important then testing for the continuity of our nation) - I don't remember covering "freedom" except in the historical sense. Perhaps there should be a "Contemporary Issues for Americans in the World" course to cover norms, values, and identity issues?KJShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15072141735262927681noreply@blogger.com
